In keeping with the school's theme of Canada, my class was studying the First Nations Peoples. I designed and implemented a lesson that helped the students differentiate between facts and opinions in regards to the First Nations Peoples between 6 categories, including food and lifestyle. The SMARTboard presentation can be found on my Integrating Technology page.

"An excellent, comprehensive lesson plan."

"Excellent lesson plan contains all the important elements."
- Christina Poliafico, Cooperating Teacher
One of the weeks I was at Bancroft, the school board
was celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week. In conjunction with this, I implemented a lesson in which students wrote in their journals describing what makes them happy after creating a class mind map on the SMARTboard with student ideas. I was able to gain experience with the SMARTboard and even had the opportunity to teach my Cooperating Teacher how to use certain features. |
My Cooperating Teacher provided her students with math booklets on fractions. Students would complete these booklets during math class. During this time, I would assist any students who were having difficulty understanding the material, as shown to the left, and as discussed the answers to the questions with the whole class.

"Alex responds well to C.T.'s feedback and suggestions."
- Christina Poliafico, Cooperating Teacher
A few times throughout the week, my
Cooperating Teacher would teach math to the kindergarten class. They were starting a unit on currency and Canadian money, so I made worksheets for the students. They coloured the coins in using the correct colours, and were able to write the denomination of each coin beside it as well. We played games with plastic money in which the students had to say the name of the coin, as well as the denomination. |
Although this stage was short, I developed some close bonds with my students. This was particularly true for two students who have Individualized Education Plans but do not qualify for in-class aids. Due to my presence, I was able to act as their in-class aids and help them where and when I was able to. It between very clear that the students appreciated - and needed - my help.
