This young children's book was developed in order to introduce students to the solar system. Through reading the book students also have the opportunity to engage in alliteration as they watch Parker the Penguin travel to each planet and eat a snack. Download the book below!

The following is a group of centres based around Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Kindergarten students will become familiar with the book and engage in science, art, technology and literacy activities. Centres include a terranium, a sensory bin, and a puppet theatre.

For this lesson, students read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle. The repetition allows the students to join in with reading with book, associating words and colours to objects and following a pattern. The students are then asked to write a journal entry in regards to what they see. This lesson was also featured in the EMSB 2015 Anthology.

One of my favourite lessons involves reading The Best Part of Me by Wendy Ewald to students, a collection of photographs and handwritten notes by children highlighting their favourite parts of their bodies. With discussions of body image and diversity, students choose their favourite part of themselves to write about, and it is mounted next to a black and white photograph of them highlighting said body part.
